The three days and two nights Primers Leadership Camp was an extremely incredible experience for both Year 5 and Year 6s!! being the last camp for the Year 6s, it was all the more meaningful for me. Looking back, those days at camp was truly a heart-warming experience as I finally got to know some Year 5s better as a group leader!! :)
9th March 2012 (Day 1)
Personally, I was extremely apprehensive for the starting of the PLC camp. Having never really got to the Year 5s well due to other CCA commitments, I was quite fearful of being assistant group leader as I was not confident of being a good leader. However, once the ICEBREAKERS began, I felt so much more at ease because I found that my group members were extremely cooperative and an enthusiastic bunch!! :) Soon, the initial feeling of awkwardness I felt quickly disappeared and I was more prepared and confident of leading them over the next few days!
After the icebreakers, came DINNER where we enjoyed yummy noodles!! Then came WORSHIP AND DEVOTIONS!! We reflected on the camp theme: Christ our cornerstone. During this period of devotion, and through the devotions held over the three days, I really felt extremely heartened. Through it all, it made me reflect on the current way of life I have been leading. Due to the stresses of the IB, I realised that I had not placed God as the main cornerstone in my life. The stresses of the IB had gotten to me that I had, sad to say, forgotten the importance of placing God the centre of my life :(
Although I am sure that drill must be daunting for many of the new Year 5s, especially the girls, the DRILL session held on the 1st day of PLC camp had much fun injected into it for us to learn the different commands in an enjoyable way!! We were given COLOURFUL LIGHTSTICKS which we could wave about and hold in our hands, while marching on the Astroturf. It was an extremely pretty sight to see colourful lights flashing about in the darkness of the night :)

More light-stick Drill! LOL AT ADI!

The light-stick fascination continued, even after supper!
10th March 2012 (Day 2)
The next day was filled with FUN FUN FUN!! And it was a brilliant sunny morning when the Year 5s spent the late morning at Mana Mana at East Coast Park where they enjoyed themselves tremendously during activities such as kayaking.

Kayaking at Mana Mana allowed Year 5s to get to work together..

...and bond as they had fun at the beach!
The Year 6s joined them thereafter for the STATION GAMES that the planning committee had painstakingly arranged and planned out for all of us. First, we set off for MacDonalds or the nearby foodcourt where the teams led by their group leaders enjoyed a hearty lunch, getting to spend precious quality time together as a team.

Some random drink that colours your tongue.. yet another ploy by the Year 6s to encourage bonding. Well done guys!
After which, we set off by foot to the respective stations assigned to us, guided by a single map, with rather vague instructions. However, we were undaunted by the challenge presented to us, and remained cheerful before reaching the various stations. The first station was going through an ‘obstacle course’ whereby all team members had to hold hands throughout the entire course. However, this was much harder than we thought because we had to go through the obstacle course, guided by a member who could not see the obstacles clearly because his/her head was covered by a box. But with perseverance and excellent teamwork, we still managed to successfully complete the course!! :) The difficulty came from having to walk barefooted on the path of small rocks and even doing a jumpshot on the small rocks, causing our feet much agony!
Fun teambuilding games!

Jumpshot!
We had a nice bath :D
Group 5 strikes again! With Sashi the Burden, Keri the talks-too-much and Jia Hui the liabili-pea
The second station involved using our elbows and noses to move a small ball along a white mat with red paint on it! In the end, we ended up looking quite bloody with red spots on our elbows, noses and hands! After which, we took a nice clean bath at the next station where we practically immersed ourselves in a tub full of water and had to cover a short distance, dragging the tub along, inviting curious stares from the passersby’. Given that it was a sunny day and we were all rather sweaty from the walk to the stations, the soak in the tub proved a relaxing and enjoyable experience for all :)
"Aw please it's not dirty at all!"

Aside from looking like Joshua Seow, Kenneth Yon also looks like a liiiittle like Daryl.
Yong Jian's beach games, apparently one of the 'cleaner' stations.
Just as we were about to complete our last station for the day, the weather had turned nasty and before we knew it, the blue sky had turned dark and stormy. Luckily, a small umbrella that Dorothy had brought saved us, and the girls were shielded from the heavy rain! while we all ran to the nearest shelter.

Back to school :(
Zenn is unhappy that all the fun had to end so soon!
After a period of brief rest and dinner (which was the SAME NOODLES :( ), it was time for NIGHT GAMES to begin!! :) Each group was given the name of a show and a line to incorporate into their skit. While performing this skit, we had to use props that we won from the various stations around the school. My team won a pole, raffia string. The name of the show we were given was ‘Xman’ and the line we had to incorporate was ‘Patient you must be’. It was an extremely hard task for all groups to brainstorm for ideas for a well-planned skit within the short span of time, but with excellent teamwork, everyone pulled it off although there were some slips here and there, but it was a rewarding experience to see all the Year 5s work well together under time constraints to fulfill their task.
Coming back to school, we had worship and a time to relax~

11th March 2012 (Day 3)
It seemed like the two days at camp had passed by so quickly!! Soon, it was already the last day of camp L however, glad to say the days spent at camp were an extremely rewarding experience due to the interaction between the Year 5s and 6s as well as seeing the Year 5s step up to show leadership. We attended service and there was photo-taking as well for the entire Primer cohort.
Finally, before the ending of the camp, we enjoyed a thoroughly planned mass game activity where we had to assume roles such as trolls, etc, carefully planned out by Kenneth. however, just as we were about to start playing the games, it started raining heavily but this did not deter us and we enjoyed ourselves just as well in the rain on the Astroturf. In no time, the Astroturf, was filled with soaked teens throwing colourful balls at each other and chasing one another before it was time to clean up before worship, sharing and dismissal. No doubt, the three days passed extremely quickly but I can definitely say, that it was an unforgettable and memorable experience for many. Getting to work closely with the Year 5s as well as seeing many of them eventually show their leadership potential was probably the most rewarding experience out of the camp.
